Modern Thieves may seem like a new sound around town, but they’re hardly newcomers to the D.C. music scene. They came together in early 2010 and instantly broke out with a promising five-track EP and a stream of local performances. Singer Ryan Murphy brings a full vocal range and charisma to the already steady, seasoned backdrop of D.C.’s most beloved rock-reggae-soul band, Politicks (guitarist Mike Trella, bassist Brian Chafin, and drummer Brendan McCourt). With nearly a decade of professional musicianship, these Thieves expertly blend rock, alternative, and trip-hop into a sultry, pleasantly infectious groove of their own.

The band’s current catalog includes 9 original songs along with covers by: Gorillaz, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Coldplay, Beck, Modest Mouse, The Clash, Band of Horses, MGMT, OK Go, Radiohead, MUSE, Blur, Spoon… even Ginuwine, R Kelly and Justin Timberlake.
