Richmonds Absurdist String Band
“The focus and polish is an interesting counterpoint to the band’s satiric approach to music-making, that absurd aesthetic that now includes short films and tune-filled plays. Anything but the normal stuff.” – Style Weekly, 2008

The Fitzmaurice Band is an up and coming band based out of Bowie, MD, playing the entire spectrum of bluegrass, from the traditional high and lonesome sounds of Bill Monroe to contemporary acoustic music. This young quintet has been wowing audiences throughout Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia with their tight, passionate vocals, virtuousic instrumental work, and high levels of energy on stage. With an emphasis on original music that the band classifies as “alternative bluegrass”, their repertoire also covers not only the traditional sound, but also their own take on classic rock and country. The band features identical twin sisters, Maria and Sarah Fitzmaurice, Brandon Snellings, Mike Simms, and Aaron Malone.
Twenty year old identical twin sisters, Maria and Sarah Fitzmaurice, founded The Fitzmaurice Band in late 2006. Their voices (Maria’s smokey alto and Sarah’s pure, soaring soprano) blend together beautifully in sibling harmony for a “bluesgrass” sound that is uniquely their own. As the rhythm guitarist, Maria has emerged as the group’s primary songwriter and Sarah keeps it all together on the upright bass. Both girls are sophmore’s in college – Maria is majoring in Interior Design and Sarah is studying Vocal Performance.

Chester River Runoff
The Runoff have successfully played many of the best and most well known clubs and theatres in the area, including the Avalon Theatre in Easton, Andy’s in Chestertown, the 8×10 in Baltimore, the Mainstay, Coffee East/NightCat, and can be seen at famous bluegrass clubs such as the Friendly Inn and the Purple Fiddle. They have shared stages with many of the best in bluegrass and Americana music, including Steep Canyon Rangers, the Avett Brothers, the Hackensaw Boys, and Adrienne Young; and have had many great shows in unlikely pairings, such as with punk and reggae bands, and even opened for garage rock legends the Fleshtones. The group plays regularly in the triangle described by the Eastern Shore, Richmond, VA, and New York City, but they are always looking to expand their range even more. They have released a couple of live CDs, and are hard at work on their studio debut, due out in 2009.
