Dont Call Us Sweethearts

Dont Call Us Sweethearts

Ammar Malik & Lindsay Stovall are… Don’t Call us Sweethearts

Known for the original sounds achieved by the groups Ska Face and Free Money, Ammar Malik is now emerging as a premier singer/song-writer in the Northern Virginia area. His uncanny ability to compose unique and melodic vocal melodies has audiences enthralled upon first listen. Going with out the full band instrumentation, Ammar has learned to manipulate simplicity to the advantage of the song to the point where a mere breathe between words seems to fill the room like a symphony. Unable to be tamed by a classic genre, Ammar fuses together elements of Indie, pop, and acoustic rock.

The Fabulous Exaggerations

The Fabulous Exaggerations

These friends have pulled powerful forces together and the vocal and instrumental power grow almost exponentially. All three are lead vocalists and each brings his broad repertoire. Together they can play any genre: R&B, C&W, Rock & Roll, Jazz, Funk, Standards…they’re all over the road…

All of this is done with great attention to the mix, tone, and volume…a sort of “acoustic” approach that features great playing, feel, and outstanding vocals…even with the addition of drums when the occasion and money allows it.

Yarn

Yarn

The band’s textured, bluegrass-tinged country is at once accessible and affecting. Carroll Gardens frontman Blake Christiana’s singing voice is the aural equivalent of a broken-in pair of jeans—rugged, homey, and dependable. Among this bevy of top-notch bluegrass musicians, mandolinist Andrew Hendryx’s thoughtful, articulate playing emerges as a crucial part of the band’s sound. Though Yarn’s jam band roots are manifest at times, the instrumentation never preens or overpowers; Christiana’s masterful songwriting shines through in each song.
